On a blisteringly hot day in Frank Healy Park Tulla overcame Connolly Celtic by 3 goals to 1 to win the U16 Cup.
Tulla started really well with Sadhbh forcing a number of corners from Connolly rearguard. Caoilfhionn fired in the corner and Ava G with the headed finish: 1-0 Tulla. Perfect start. Tulla continued to trouble Connolly with a series of chances as Sarah, Ruby and Caoilfhionn dominated midfield. Another corner was a repeat of the first - Aoibhe O'Leary with the headed finish. 2-0 Tulla. Ava O'D kept control of her rearguard as Niamh, Juliette, Aoibhe and Emily kept Connolly at arms length. Abi moved to number 9 as Ava got treatment and continued to torment the Connolly defenders. Aoife came on on the wing and with her pace ran at Connolly defence and caused no end of problems. Aimee Byrnes replaced Sadbhb on wing for second half and continued to trouble Connolly. Connolly were trying to get back into game and ref decided on a penalty. First penalty was missed but it was retaken and Connolly scored. Pressure was now on again. Almost immediately Ava G controlled a long pass and laid a perfect ball back to Ruby to send a beautiful strike into top corner: 3-1 Tulla. Eabha Mac and Aimmee Nolan came on and provided much needed energy for their team mates. Tulla midfield continued to hold Connolly at arms length. A 1-2 between Aoife and Caoilfhionn led to a goal which was then ruled out for offside. Kate and Meghan then stepped up with Juliette limping off. Tulla saw out game for a famous victory.
Cathal Jones presented the cup to Caoilfhionn on behalf of the CSSL. What a wonderful achievement from the girls and special thanks to parents for getting their girls to matches throughout the season. Congratulations to you all!!
