The founding officers were:
Chairperson: Sean Quinn, Doonane (R.I.P)
Secretary: Mar Torpey, Tulla (R.I.P)
Treasurer: Oliver Ryan, Tulla
Tulla United played its first competitive game on Sunday 13th December 1970, defeating Lifford B on a score line of 3 - 2. The game was played at The Fairgreen, Ennis. Incredibly it was the only game we won that season ! Our team captain that day was none other than Ed Murphy (Publican). Kevin Barry scored 2 goals as a very young teenager - he actually still had not reached his 13th birthday !
In 1986, the Club won its first title, winning the First Division Shield defeating Corofin 1 - 0 at Our Lady's Hospital on November 2nd. The winning goal was scored by M. A. Moloney. In 1987, the club played the in the Premier Division for the first time.
The 90's were marked by the Juniors winning the Second Division Championship twice in 1992 managed by Kevin Barry and 1999 managed by Mike Moloney. A Ladies soccer team was also established and lasted most of the decade.
Prior to establishing and setting up at our fantastic new home at The Cragg, Tulla, our soccer club had a "roving" base and we played at the following: O'Gorman's Lawn Knockadoon, Whelan's Kiltannon, Tyreda (two venues), Cooney's in Ashler, Lisofin Cross and Sraheen behind Henchy's Pub. Melody's Cragg hosted a few schoolboy games.
The whole development at The Cragg, including the purchase of thee property, the construction of two pitches and the building of Dressing Rooms and Clubhouse has cost over €1 million, over one third of the money has been borrowed and our Draw of 200 subscribers is of critical importance to enable the Club to service this debt.
The year 2000 was not just the new millennium but also saw a new concerted approach to Schoolboy Football in Tulla. The Club had made sporadic appearances in Clare Schoolboy football right from the early 70's but the year 2000 saw a more determined effort on the part of the Club regarding Schoolboy football. Tulla United won its first ever Schoolboy trophy when the U-12 team beat Connolly Celtic 6 - 1 in the U-12 Division 2 playoff game at Soccer Headquarters in Doora in May 2003. Alas, the same team was beaten in the all division Cup Final by Corofin 2 - 1.
