Tulla United 1, Aughrim Rangers 1 Tulla won 4-3 on penalties.
Tulla United will join the elite of Irish football in the draw for the National Cup last 16. Euphoric scenes unfolded at Andy Allen Park in Wicklow as Tulla overcame Aughrim Rangers in a penalty shootout. The game was physical from the start, with both teams battling to gain a foothold. Tulla’s set pieces caused plenty of problems for Rangers. They hit the post and crossbar from corners and twice thought they had the ball over the line, only for the referee to rule it out. Cillian and Mikey both believed they had scored. The second half began with Rangers taking the lead. A well-placed through ball at the edge of the box was neatly finished past Danny in goal. But the team that doesn’t know how to quit rallied again. Beautiful footwork by Evan down the right won a corner. The corner was flicked on by Danny and finished by Evan at the back post. Tulla pushed for a winner in regulation, but to no avail. Extra time was a tight affair. The best chance fell to Alex, whose great shot hit the post.
In the end, penalties decided it. Goals by Finn, Noah, Cian, Mikey, and a save by Danny led to mass celebrations. Thanks to all the traveling parents.
