Carlow League Red (6) vs Tulla Utd (0) KO 10.05AM

At the start of Day # 3 our boys were sitting in 2nd position in the group on goal difference thanks to the high scoring we did the previous day. Tulla Utd was still playing for the possibility of going through to the Galway Cup Semi Final. The day started with another early kick off at 10.05am against a very strong Carlow League team who were unbeaten in the previous games.

As always, we started the game strong and with high spirits. The players very quickly accepted that there would be a challenge ahead of them from the strength of the Carlow Team. They kept them scoreless until 13minutes to go in the 1st half when one of the Carlow players scored an unstoppable goal into the top corner from distance. The players kept there heads high and fought hard for each other however Carlow were able to put two more passed us before the break.

The 2nd half started the way the first did with Tulla Utd putting the pressure on however Carlow countered and scored their 4th goal 5minutes later. We nearly got on the scoresheet when Oisín Collins shot just narrowly missed the target a few minutes later. In a repeat of the 1st half, we again unfortunately conceded two more goals in the dying minutes.

The boys fought hard but Carlow were just too strong for us on the day. Next up at 2.40pm we had another Carlow County team.

Tulla Utd (1) vs (4) Carlow League Red KO 2.40PM

After the defeat in the morning game the players regrouped in the impressive clubhouse of Salthill Devon and got to relax and enjoy each other’s company. Very quickly you could tell the strength of this group of boys by hearing how they discussed the game amongst themselves and the positive feedback they were giving each other. It was very comforting as coaches to hear how the result wasn’t knocking their joy of the tournament and the game.

Prior to our 2nd game of the day two of the teams below us in the group had drawn 1-1 which meant that if we won our final group game, we would be through to the Galway Shield semifinal. A loss puts us into the Bowl semifinal.

With a few minor changes from the starting team of the 1st game of the day we kicked off the with the typical style of pressing the opposition. The press worked a treat when Oisín Collins feed through a beautiful ball to Oritseweyinmi Emiko for his 2nd goal of the tournament 1 minute into the game.

Carlow responded 10 minutes later with the equaliser and followed that up with another 5 minutes later with the lead before the break.
The 2nd half was looking like the boys could get back into the game and kept the pressure on Carlow. With 2 minutes left on the clock our boys were defending extremely well however a clearance came off one of the Carlow strikers which bounced directly into his path to take it on and put it into the bottom corner. With seconds to go in the game Carlow played a high ball over our defence and got the final goal of the game.

Man of the match for both games would have to go the Jack McMahon in goal who made seriously impressive saves at vital points of the game. Well done, Jack.👏

These group of boys should be extremely proud of how they did. A very well run club in east Clare, Tulla Utd vs two County Teams. They proved today that they could compete at that level. 👏

Next up tomorrow 08th August @ 4.45pm vs Maree Oranmore in the Bowl Semifinal.
